25 things to do before your little one arrives

I'm currently in my 32nd week of pregnancy, and I'd have another 7 weekends (including this week) should our little one decides to arrive earlier to celebrate Buddha's Joyful Day on the 24Aug 2010 (on the 15th day of lunar calendar). Otherwise, I'd have another 8-9 weekends should he arrive later to celebrate Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha's birthday on 7Sep 2010 (on the 30th day of the 7th month of lunar calendar).

I found the following in an article, and agree to some of the things mentioned, but not the following:
#3 & #22 - body massage may not be suitable for pregnant women, and hairdo (highlight, dye or perm) is not advisable as the chemicals enter our bodies straight to our womb where our foetus is (though there's no evidence, if you have to, better to do it in your 2nd or 3rd trimester).

#11 - spurging on jewellery is not my cup of tea

#13 - even a getaway with frens locally is difficult (as some may have to make arrangements for their young kids) to meet up if they don't wish to bring along big bags of bb stuff, bb stroller or carrier or even their spouse to take care of the kids

#21 - don't have the time to waste, as shopping and looking around for bb stuff can last only at most 2h as I tired more easily towards the 3rd trimester

#24 - it's no no for me, as heels are all left in the office (though I'd like to wear the heels I bought for our wedding again), and personally, flat shoes are more comfy, and dine at home can save up for bb future expenses instead.

1. Heart talk with hubby- voice out your expectations before and after the birth and vice versa
2. Research work- have a bb shopping checklist (first few years has gift-list services and store managers to provide assistance)
3. Relax- go for a facial, spa, body massage, manicure or hairdo
4. Keep fit- do little & often, begin with 15-min sessions, then increase up to 45-min in the 2nd trimester (walking & swimming can be done in moderation till D-day)

5. Sleep- take short naps as you may wake several times in the night to go to the washroom (more frequent if you've a weak bladder) as you may not see much more of your bed.
6. Hang out- get used to crying babies (other people's children)
7. Balanced diet- eat when hungry, take healthy snacks, and do not eat for 2 or go on diet
8. Baby sitter- find one when you can still think properly
9. Watch your hormones- recognise that you're going to be overly hormonal and get tired more easily, so spend time with your family and accept support where it's offered
10. Lazy day off- read a book from cover to cover, catch a movie, watch TV, put your feet up and do nothing
11. Shopping spree- spend on maternity wear, if not, spend on jewellery or shoes
12. Tea- spend time with friends
13. Pre-baby getaway- spend time with girlfriends or alone
14. Mindfulness training on negative feelings- focus on how you relate to people, investigate transgenerational issues and look at what's genetic and what's learned behaviour to change generations of behaviour
15. Stock up- basic necessities like toiletries, non-perishable food, etc
16. Post-natal holiday- plan a hol when infant is 4-5mth old, and no need to bring jars of food, and still on breastfeeding, won't be crawling
17. Dental appt- make a visit to the dentist before you get too busy
18. Domestic make-over- clear your wardrobe, clean your home, prepare frozen meals to last the first few weeks of motherhood
19. Say cheese- take mthly pic of you and your bump and put on album or pregnancy journal
20. Sleep- refer to point 5 above
21. Get out of house- don't take anything else except your purse and house keys (mobile is optional but some it's critical to make emergency calls) and have no destination or plans
22. Body massage- refer to point 3 above (sooner you start slathering yourself in a nourishing body oil, the better as you'll be less likely to develop stretch marks, and less sagging after the birth)
23. Plan- pen down your thoughts on your birth plan (discuss with hubby and gynae), and prepare to book a hospital ward bed around 31st week of pregnancy, your gynae should be issuing a letter of admission towards the 33rd-36th week
24. Final countdown- go for a dinner, late supper at fav restaurant and wear those fabulous heels (if you want as it could be the last time they'll get an airing for quite a while)
25. Sleep- refer to point 20 above
